Asian Development Bank (ADB) Tianjin, China
Tianjin Rural Commercial Bank (TRCB) was formed from the merger of Tianjin Rural Cooperative Bank and nine rural county and district credit cooperatives in 2010. Team leader, working with team of national consultants and TRCB to research best practices, develop a concept and design an implementation plan for establishment of a TRCB Community Bank, operating in both urban and rural areas.

International Finance Corporation (IFC) - Middle and North Africa (MENA) (Bank Alfalah, Pakistan; Bank Muscat, Oman)
Lead Specialist for Non-Financial Advisory Services (NFA) with an IFC team working on Building SME Banking Capacity for banks in the MENA Region. Bank Alfalah, Pakistan adopted strategy, which included offering SMEs Information (SME Toolkit), Training (Seminars) and Advice with the expectation of increasing SMEs ability to repay loans, improve business practices and support business growth. The Business Advice Managers advice role is to facilitate SME client to improve their business performance through providing basic business advice, information, and suggestions. Business Advice Managers will utilize a needs assessment tool, to diagnose business problems and offer advice/suggestions.

International Finance Corporation (IFC) - South Asia Enterprise Development Facility (SEDF) - SME Market Segmentation Database - Bangladesh
Team Leader and Banking Specialist for SME Market Segmentation Database project in Bangladesh, assisting banks and other financial institutions to define competitive positioning, design profitable SME strategies, financial products and channels for banks to better service SMEís.

International Finance Corporation (IFC) – IFC Regional Distribution
Assisting IFC – Advisory Services in studying the trend in emerging markets for Commercial Banks and other Financial Institutions (FIs) to provide or facilitate SMEs’ access to non-financial services. IFC has developed a unique set of SME information, business tools and training services under its SME Toolkit & Business Edge brands. The study will assess demand, its rationale, identify gaps and grey areas, assist in benchmarking IFC’s offer in this field, highlight the role IFC’s existing tools can play and help IFC design appropriate products and solutions.

As sisting the International Finance Corporation to identify promising prospects for smaller investment in Africa, Europe, Central and South Asia countries. These countries are generally given adequate coverage for larger investment prospects; yet smaller investments often have the greatest difficulty obtaining financial assistance in countries where the financial sector is under-developed. IFC therefore wishes to undertake a special effort to seek such smaller deals in a selected group of countries.

PROGRAM DESIGN

  • Assisted the Arab Center for Agriculture Development (ACAD), West Bank, Palestine, with strategies and action steps addressing the legal and operational issues to transform its microfinance and social/business services components into separate legal structures. ACDI/VOCA, supported by the USAID SMART project wished to provide appropriate technical assistance.
  • Assisted Palestine for Credit & Development (FATEN), West Bank, Palestine, in developing a strategic plan, providing the Board of Directors with governance training, drafted a governance manual and strengthening FATEN's financial risk management framework. The USAID SMART project supported the initiative.
  • Assisted the Kazakhstan Loan Fund (KLF) – Kazakhstan, and the Bai Tushum Financial Foundation (BTFF) – Kyrgyz Republic, with strategies and action steps addressing the legal and operational issues to be resolved to transform into deposit taking for profit entities. ACDI/VOCA, supported by USAID, is the founder of these micro-finance institutions, which are currently faced with limitations to their expansion due to their current non-profit nature
  • Designed a business support service for SMEs to provide pre-and post-support in attaining loans, investments, managerial, operational and technical assistance, problem solving consulting, and training and publications in Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan for the International Finance Corporation
  • Assessed the existing Small and Medium Enterprises: lending, investing and support services, identified SME needs, and proposed solutions in the Kyrgyz Republic for the International Finance Corporation
  • Assisted the International Finance Corporation (IFC) with design of a Mozambique SME Initiative to finance small and medium enterprises on a commercial basis
  • Acted as an advisor to CIDA in the development of a country strategy for assisting Small Medium Size Enterprises in Tanzania. Subsequently was engaged to perform due-diligence exercise in Tanzania and deliver a review and evaluation of the program consulting groups reports
  • CIDA project: undertook a preliminary feasibility study to determine the viability of launching a new Loan Guarantee Program in Kiev, Ukraine TOP

TRAINING

  • Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) project to strengthen Pakistan's SME Bank Ltd. by developing and delivering training programs for credit staff in the completion of business financial and operational and assessments and design a loan risk monitoring system
  • Small Business Management – a CIDA funded "hands-on" training initiative for landmine victims in Bosnia Herzegovina on how to prepare a business plan
  • Proposal Writing Skills – a CIDA funded training initiative developed and implemented to assist NGOs in Bosnia Herzegovina with the preparation of proposals for funding from international donors
  • From Idea to Business Opportunities – a CIDA funded training initiative developed and implemented in Bosnia Herzegovina to assist aspiring entrepreneurs with the identification of micro enterprising opportunities

WOMEN ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT

  • Developed curriculum and pedagogical materials, Financial Intelligence Modules – Women's Entrepreneurial Leadership (credit course) for The George Washington University School of Business, Washington, DC
  • United Nations, International Labor Office (ILO)/African Development Bank project in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania – mapped out key areas of the business environment which contributed to an enabling environment for growth-oriented women entrepreneurs and make recommendations to the African Development Bank
  • International Labor Office/African Development Bank Assessment of the Enabling-Environment for Women in Growth Enterprises in Uganda. Reviewed and mapped out the components of the enabling environment; Identified caps in the existing provisions and support for growth-oriented women entrepreneurs, as well as "good practice" initiatives; Made recommendations for further actions, addressed to the ILO & AfDB, that may lead to an improvement of the environment for the growth of women-owned enterprises
  • Development of Assessment Tool: Co-authored an AfDB/ILO assessment guide "Assessing the Enabling-Environment" for African Development Bank (AfDB) International Labor Office TOP

PROGRAM/EVALUATION ASSESSMENT

  • Ongoing program evaluation on Canadian International Development Agency's contribution to an e-Learning initiative in Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Analyzed and evaluated the financial and the operational processes and controls of the Private Bank (Ukraine) as part of an assessment by the International Monetary Fund of Ukraine Banks to determine compliance with internationally accepted standards of quality and control of banking procedures and loan viability
  • E-Learning and Knowledge Network Program for South East Europe (E-Net) Performance Review: Acted as a Public and Private Sector Training Expert in a CIDA-sponsored e-learning program implementation assessment in Bosnia Herzegovina
  • The CIDA-funded Romanian Small Business Development/Micro-Credit Program was developed to provide training, consulting and credit facilities to the small business sector in Romania. Program objectives were not being met. Completed an assessment of the organizational structure and human resource capacity. Developed an HR strategy document reflecting and evaluation of the current situation and a detailed development strategy with recommended timeframe and budget TOP
